Spain generates about one seventh of it's electricity from wind power, from large state-owned systems such as these to smaller personal use systems. Spain is second in percentage of total electricity generated from wind only to Denmark. Germany is the leader in bringing new wind-generated electricity capacity online - some 2,000 megawatts in 2003 alone. Our European cohorts have lived with energy costs higher than we are used to for decades and have become innovative and accepting of alternative methods of electricity generation. They know how it can be done in concert with sensitivity to the environment. At February 2004, Canada had 327 megawatts installed - enough for 115,000 households and to be ranked 13th in the world.
COOL Caledon and the Windy Hills cooperative are working together to build a sustainable regulatory infrastructure in Caledon for wind power. Please contact us if you'd like to know more.'
