In a recent competition judged by three expert panelists on TVOntario Studio2 New magazine program, Caledon tied with Orillia as one of the two greenest towns in Ontario.

How is Caledon green?

• tri-nodal official Town development plan, focussing on minimizing sprawl
and keeping rural areas rural and taking advantages of community services where they currently exist
• extensive recylcing program - organics, plastics, styrofoam, etc.
• strong community awareness and participation
strong town council and staff support - approved hiring on Environmental Progress Officer
anti-pesticide bylaw instituted 1 May, 2004
environmental sensitivity is a lifestyle for many Caledonians

In a 2004 Earth Day re-visit of the competition, Colin Isaacs, one of the original three judges, was reluctant to break the tie, but had to give an edge to Caledon when he realized the uniqueness of the Environmental Progress Officer.
